How the 2-in-1 Jelly Bubble Gum was Made ?

'Let's compete to see who can blow the biggest bubble' was one of many people's favorite games in their childhoods, especially the sugary pink one. In the 1890s, bubble gum was not as small and portable as it is today; nor were there as many flavor combinations as there are today. As children, we wondered nothing more than what made the gum so sticky and how this pink sphere was made?

1. The Homemade Bubble Gum

What exactly is that sticky candy we put in our mouths? Just as in the picture below, here are the ingredients that you need to make a home version of bubble gum2 cups of powdered sugar, 1/3 cup of bubble gum base, 5 tablespoons of light corn syrup, and bubble gum flavor, mixing container, mixing tool, waxed paper.

As shown in the video (please stick below picture), mix gum base and corn syrup in the mixing container.

Then Place the container in the microwave and cook the mixture under high temperature in 15-second intervals until it is completely melted. Stir in between the intervals, and the mixture will boil.

When the mixture is completely melted, add the bubble gum flavor, and mix them. Then pour your mixture into the powdered sugar well.

Once the mixture is cool enough, use your hands to knead the gum. Keep kneading until the mixture resembles gum. You can roll the mixture into a long stripe and cut it into small pieces, or pull it into bite-sized pieces from the mixture and roll it into a ball shape.

Later, they're cool and you can wrap them in waxed paper.

This is the process of making homemade bubble gum. In the factory, people have allocated these processes of mixing, dispensing, etc. to the machine for production efficiency. In fact, the process of manufacturing them is basically the same.

The process of manufacturing can be summarized as follows: mixing the ingredients; shaping the bubble gum pieces; cooling the bubble gum; cutting the bubbles into individual pieces and packaging the product.

2.1 Bubble gum producing procedure

Step 1: Mixing the raw materials

The raw materials, include Chicle, Custer sugar, corn syrup, flavorings, softeners, and so on. They will make it taste better and easier to chew.

The gum base (chicle)has been prepared in advance and poured into a mixing bowl. It is cooked at 117°C until it liquefies. At this time pour in the glucose syrup and other ingredients, then continue stirring until they are well mixed. It will be ready to move on to the next process.

Step2: The cooling mixture

Basically, no more than 1 tonne of gum base is mixed at a time. After the mixing is completed, the gum base will be poured into long sheets and left to cool, until the temperature slowly drops to 55°C.

Step3 Assembling the jelly candy

The whole mixing and cooling process takes place over several hours to give the gum a chewy texture. The gum is then flattened to a thickness of 9mm on the sides and 4mm in the middle, more like the Chinese character''.

Just as it is about to be squeezed out of the conveyor belt, the top conveyor belt stacks the 5mm thick jelly gum into the slot of the bubble gum. At this point, the machinery starts cutting. Throughout the process, the gum is dusted with powdered sugar so it is easier to cut.

Step 4: Packing

Then it's time to move on to the final step. The final part of the machinery is the automatic packaging machine. The jelly bubble gum falls down to the conveyor belt, the machine will pack it automatically. The complete jelly runs then drops down another conveyor belt and is sent to the packaging plant.

Each jelly bubble gum is individually wrapped, which helps extend its shelf life. For the sake of food hygiene, the entire production process is carried out by machine with the exception of the addition of ingredients, the final product quality testing, and packaging. We touch the ingredients as little as possible.

Step 5: Quality Inspector

When the packaged jelly bubble gum sent to the quality control workshop, the product is at a temperature of 10-15°C. At this point, the temperature in the workshop must be kept at a constant level. Workers will check that the packaging of the jelly bubble gum is intact and undamaged. After passing the inspection they are then distributed in boxed and cartons.

This is the entire production process of bubble gum. Although it is made from a type of rubber, all the ingredients in bubble gum are natural, except for the flavoring. In the next article, we will continue to discuss the differences between several most popular types of bubble gum nowadays.
